The 2013 restoration, told through the projection booth
Most accounts of the restoration talk about the auditorium: the plaster ceiling medallions recast from a single surviving fragment, the seat count settled at 612 after a long argument about legroom versus capacity. The projection booth gets less attention, and it’s where the real decision got made.
The short version: we kept the 35mm platter system running alongside the digital server, rather than replacing it, because the two-Wilder-Fridays programme this site is built around doesn’t exist without a working film chain. Digital paid for the roof. Film paid for what we actually wanted to show under it.
