Billy Wilder’s Hollywood-on-Hollywood noir is framed in the Academy ratio — 1.37:1 — the sound-era standard from 1932 until widescreen arrived in the early 1950s. It is one of the last major studio pictures shot in that ratio before the format war that followed.
